is there any kind of FAQ or glossary for the basics of hacking? i see a lot of people (myself included) asking what's bootloader? what's SSH? what is BSD subsystem? what does WinSCP do? what does OOTB mean? i've been looking all over the place for something like that and can't find it. i'd be more than willing to write it, if it doesn't exist.

i know what most of them are/mean NOW, but i see this stuff asked by so many that are new to the hacking/unlocking/jailbreaking scene.

OOTB or OTB is "Out Of The Box", meaning that it was received with whatever version they are stating. Like OTB 1.1.2.
Honestly, I cannot tell where to find the bootloader, only that the lastest version of Firmware has the latest bootloader, unless jailbroken from an earlier version that did not update the bootloader with the jailbreak.
SSH, BSD Subsystem, and WinSCP are tools for remoting into the phone and accessing file systems and to make changes to file content and structure. Not for the faint at heart if you are unsure of what you are doing. Personally, I was a PC Support tech untill May last year and I won't touch it. But some people seem to move fluidly through it. Up to you. I also have to say that I haven't really seen a need for it yet.

i'm getting familiar with it, but it's only my 2nd week with the iPhone. i am somewhat brave in that i will try this stuff. i've already gotten into the phone a few times with WinSCP and iPhoneBrowser, so i'm feeling my way around.

it is a bit scary though!

I know..I usually come on these forums when I have a phone problem and I actually had no problems for a long long long time. If you can tell my phone has been naughty and wont cooperate and the whole 3g phone has gotten me to come back.

i sound like a total newb. but is summerboard out for 2.0, i had my iphone since it came out(v1) but never jbed and i want to try it, any tips for the newb

As of now it is not out yet as it takes some time to port it to 2.0 but it wont take as long as last time
