Default Jailbreaking

I want to know what happens when you jailbreak your iphone. Does it just unlock it to use with tmobile or something. Why should I jailbreak my iphone?

When you "Jailbreak" your phone you can install 3rd party apps and customize almost every part of the phone. When you "Unlock" your phone it means that you can use it with any GSM carrier around the world.

I have iphone 1.0.2 and want to update the firmware to 1.1.1 and i need help regarding that.

Regarding my phone I bought it unlocked so I m not sure how it was unlocked. I had heard that there are other ways apart from jailbreak to unlock it.

Please help.

thanks

Unlocking as was explained above is the process of unlocking the firmware of the iPhone so that you can use other carriers (via a SIM card)

Jailbreaking is the process of enabling 3rd party applications to be installed on your iPhone using the App Tapp installer.

I put your wording "Unlocked iphone firmware 1.0.2 want to upgrade to unlocked 1.1.1" in the search box at the top of this page and it brought up many many many posts that contain the exact instructions your looking for. Try that.

Hi,

I may be sounding too dumb but i have read a lot of information an I am confused. I am trying to follow the instruction provided on http://iphone.unlock.no/ as it says I need to revirginize my phone in order to update the firmware...

How to "Virginize" an unlocked phone before update to 1.1.1

Ignore all long and complex tutorials - I have set up a fully automatic script that will repair the phone so that you can upgrade it.
  1. Set Settings → General → Auto Lock → Never
  2. Make sure Modem firmware is 03.14.08_G. Check this in Settings → General → About.
  3. Start Installer and update it if it asks. Tap on Sources, Edit, and Add http://i.unlock.no/ as a repository.
  4. Make sure you have BSD Subsystem installed, if not, go to System category and install it.
  5. Now, install The Virginizer found in the Unlocking Tools category. This will take about 10 minutes to complete.
Now the problem is My Iphone version is 1.0.2 (1C28) and Modem Firmware is 04.01.13_G but the tutorial above say Make sure Modem firmware is 03.14.08_G now here is my 1st problem.

2ndly I downloaded the installer on my macbook and follow the procedure
it gets stuck here

I am not sure is there anything I am doing wrong.

I know its kind of spoon feeding but all I need is to make this appication work on my phone.

Thanks
