iPhone (1st Gen) Activation Help?

Ok well thanks to PJDS the most, and all the other members that love to hang out in the marketplace for helping me find my iPhone. I bought one today for 290. It's an 8 giger and only 1 very small dent on the top left, but overall 8/10. Ok well the guy left his unactivated sim in there to proove it was a working one. I thought if I put my sim it automatically works, but that wasn't the case. So I tried activation via iTunes but it says my account (AT&T) is not illegible to finish the activation. I already knew it was going to happen because I am under AT&T PAYG. Can someone please tell me how to bypass activation? Since I tried pwning it I rememberd winpwnage doesn't accept 2.0, so I without thinking pulled the iPhone out, the result was a bricked iPhone. So I managed to restore it. Now it's under 2.1? Im guessing. What can I use to bypass activation? Please Help
