Default Iliberty and ringtones

I searched and did not come up with an answer to my question, please dont flame me too bad if this has been covered somewhere else.

I have 2 iphones running 1.1.4. I jailbroke both of them with iliberty 1.2.0.65

After jailbreaking my iphones will not sync ringtones from itunes. I made all the ringtones with the .m4r workaround, they are all under 30secs, and smaller than 330kb. I can restore and the ringtones will sync just fine.

does anyone know a workaround for this?

see where the ringtones are going...on my phone when it syncs from itunes it goes to /var/mobile/media/itunes_control/ringtones....

to make it work on my phone its /var/ringtones...

try it out...sync ur ringtones.....ssh into the phone...and copy the ringtone from the first location i mentioned to the second one....reboot iphone and see if that helps....

I ssh'd into the phone and the ringtones were in that file. I copied them to the new ringtones file just like you suggested, with no luck.

but...I resynced the phone and i watched the ringtones load just like last time. the phone finished syncing and went to the main screen and THEN flashed "sync in progress" one more time very quickly.

I thought that is wierd, so i put it on the settings > sounds menu and resynced. after the first sync the ringtones are there, but after it flashes the second time then they were gone.

I resynced again. this time i waited for the first synce to be done and then quickly removed my phone from the cradle before it had time to flash again.

It worked.

Any ideas how i can get around having to do this every time. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing?

are you coping the files from the first location or moving them....?
it seems strange that it would sync twice....
in /var/Ringtones, you should have all your stock ringtones there also...do you see that?
also the file names when you sync in itunes are changed in /var/mobile/media/itunes_control/ringtones.....they should be a four letter file name
EX: KYKS.m4r is what it should look like....yours is going to be different...
copy, leave it there...then paste that same file in /var/ringtones...dont sync...disconnect ssh...reboot iphone...
check in sounds to see if the file appeared....you can rename that file in /var/ringtones to what ever after...
it should work...as to why it disappears when you sync...not sure...i jailbroken using ziphone...i have no experience with iliberty...

p.s. this may sound dumb...but make sure all your ringtones are coming from one folder and not from here and there on your computer....i think itunes has a specific folder that ringtones have to be in....

I had to create the var/ringtones folder. there was not one there already.

My file names were changed to four letter names. I copied them to my desktop and then to the newly created ringtones folder.

As to why it is syncing twice, I dont know either, but you might be on to something with the ringtones being in the right folder on my pc.

When you purchase a ringtone from itunes, where does it go?

make sure the "r" in ringtones is a capital "R"...dont ask why but I think it matters....
You may need to make some symlinks to make ringtones work...not sure.
As for where purchased ringtones go, locate the ringtones on itunes, right click and click "get info"
I would be able to help you out more but Im doing this all from my head and my iphone ...I'm at work right now......lol...when I get home I can better help you if you need...
there is a program call ringtones on installer that does make ringtones on the phone itself..you may want to try that...
also...certain programs dont work with 1.1.4 like they did when it was 1.1.1.
you'd have to create symlinks to make them work...I believe that might be your problem....

more on that when you reply...
