thats exactly what i did, but the apple logo never shows up.

Yes, menu=home (will change the guide, thanks).

As for going back to 1.1.2, yes you can (but you might as well stay with 1.1.3 IMO).

Judging by your signature, you're on a Mac, which answers my previous question, has anyone tried this on a Mac yet...

Looks like its flaky alright. :\

Keep trying. Use the dock if you need to (some people find that easier than using the cable). It took me several tries, but in my case I was originally trying DFU mode.

just to make sure, when you say shortly, do you mean a couple minutes or like less than 30 seconds?

Less than 5 seconds!

If you can't do that you can try putting it into DFU mode first. If the jailbreak finishes without an Installer icon try it again in regular restore mode.

ok tinman, i turned the phone off, disconnected the usb cord, held down home button, reconnected usb, apple sign came on, i released home key, phone booted up with no Installer icon, help!!!
