Well I am new at this so from what I read that if you Upgrade to Apple 2.0.1 firmware, you will not be able to unlock the phone in the future.

So I was planning on backing up my phone, then running the jailbreak 2.0.1, and then resynch.

So I am confused when you say Restore first but then don't restore from my back up?

After you Restore, iTunes will ask you if you want to set up your iPhone as a new phone or use a previous backup to get your settings back. You do not want to do the latter.

i have a question about that. If you set it up as a new phone, then what happens to everything you have on your phone now? (i.e. contacts, txts, pics, etc) it never gets put back?

Some data on the phone is synced to apps on your computer, while some data is stored in the backup.

Things like music, contacts, calendars, photos, etc are stored in apps on your computer and can be synced back at any time after any number of Restores. Data such as Texts, Notes, Cities in the Weather app, etc, are stored in your backup, which you will loose.

To remove a backup, open iTunes Preferences and click the "Syncing" tab. There you will see all of your backups; to remove, just highlight one and click "Remove Backup."

Default Bad link for the 2.0.1 firmware?

Is it just me, or is the link bad on the downloads for the 2.0.1 firmware...

ok so my question is now that I did the jb 2.0.1, I see in iTunes that it says that my version is 2.0.1. Does the jb 2.0.1 have apple's update embedded or it just modify the version so iTunes thinks iPhone is updated?

Default Error 6 (but no custom images selected)

I had the 2.0.0 FW on my jaibroken iPhone using the WinPwn 2.0.0.3.

I tried upgrading to the 2.0.1 FW with WinPwn 2.0.0.4 by creating the custom firmware as previously done on the 2.0.0.3 version. I had uninstalled the previous version and did things seemingly right. But, I got the Error 6 pop-up when the phone tried to install the firmware. Now, the previous post mentions custom boot images being the cause but I had not selected any.

Any ideas as to why I got the error? I am now going back to the 2.0.0 FW as I need my phone functional! Any advice is kindly appreciated.

I am on Windows Live Messenger (pedram_amir@hotmail.com) if anyone is kind enough to help. Thanks!

John - with Pwned phones - you are allowed to restore from backups.

please don't tell anyone otherwise.

if you have installed Kate, and have restored to a fresh 1.1.4, do not restore from backup - you will hit the SWOD

Well, I actually tried to restore from a backup when I went back to 2.0.0 just now and it said I can't. I got a message saying that the previous backup was corrupt.
