Change Alert Without Hack

OK, newbie here so please be gentle. Having just switched over from a Blackberry to a 3GS I was wondering is there any way I can change the text alert notification in my iPhone without jailbreaking it? I've managed to install my own ringtones with iRinger but can't find any way of doing the text alerts. I'm more than happy keeping the phone in factory condition, it's a brilliant piece of kit but this tied to Apple s**t is a pain.

Unfortunately no.

This is one of the big reasons I am forced to jailbreak.

Well, you really have ZERO options at this point, considering you cannot jailbreak the 3GS.
