Default Can i unlock v1.1.1?

This feels like a really dumb question, but it seems people have only been able to jailbreak the 1.1.1 and i don't know if that includes being able to unlock to phone or not.

I just ordered a locked iPhone, and I think it has 1.0.2 but i'm not 100% sure.
If it comes with 1.0.2 should i keep it at 1.0.2 and unlock it there and not update,

or,

should i update to 1.1.1 first and then unlock it at 1.1.1 (if possible?)

thanks!

My advice to you is READ before you do anything!

If it comes with 1.0.2 you can activate it and unlock it totally free. If it comes with 1.1.1 (as all new ones will) you can downgrade to 1.0.2 and use a paid unlock service from IPSF and then hack/unlock to 1.1.1 - but this isn't a 5 min job! The IPSF unlock still works with the modem firmware of 1.1.1.

yeah my plan was to make sure i could for sure do an unlock on a 1.1.1 first.

so when i downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 only the firmware changes and not the baseband?
