Well I havn't heard much from Apple or AT&T on tethering I know that its not a feature available to all but I have a guide which you can use to tether your iPhone 3G or V1 on firmware 2.0 or higher to your laptop wirelessly.
As I type this I am actually in Atlanta airport and do not wish to pay for wifi for a few mins so I am using my 3G connection and its faster than the wifi! Anyways if you want the guide pm me for it because I cant post it here.
One thing I found out while I was here though and was always quite odd. I made a post earlier saying my iPhone 3G cannot join my Apple's adhock network and it was true it couldnt join it and the iPhone 2G could. I had no clue what the problem was and I was actually just having problems a few mins ago on it as it would not join.
I named my network Tether2 and had no password and everything was working and I could see it but it would not join. I then just typed in a different name to try to reboot the network and typed in some random characters and then it connects! I then turned it off and tryed tether, tether3 and etc.
The iPhone 3G will not join a adhock network with the name Tether within it. They seem to be catching on..
May help if you are not able to tether your iPhone make sure you do not name the network tether.

That's laughable. Similarly during the V1 period, many people realized if they entered in an invalid SS# they would fail the credit check and be placed on the pay as you go plan, which was, in fact, the same price as the contract plan, without the contract. The blog posts that gave instructions for this always chose the SS# 999-99-9999 for the example. At some point iTunes or whatever background service that does the credit check started blocking acceptance of that SS# completely so that you could not continue registration at all if you entered that number. I know, I tried. But that's all they blocked. 999-99-9998 worked fine for me. Ha ha.
I name my networks stuff like: VirusTransmitter, TrojanInstaller, etc. That will hopefully stop others from trying to connect.

Yes, I do have to be such an ass.
And useful too!! Since I'm going into highschool and we get to use the school's internet, I'm pretty stoked to have a backup plan for tethering and using my iPhone's network if the connection at school is down.
