1.1.1 not worth it?
First, I have a question, I have an iphonesimfree unlocked iphone which I was using with 1.0.2 without problems, I finaly decided to sit down and go step by step on a long guide i found on the net and i finaly managed to upgrade and activate 1.1.1, everything was working well until i noticed a few things.
itunes tought my phone had 300mb of space... eventualy I found two command lines on the net I input into the console of WinSCP and viola, that fixed it, then i found another problem.. I use gprs in my GSM network, so whenever I input the edge settings (APN, etc.) and I rebooted my phone, the phone forgot about the settings and they were blank again. By going online and searching I found out that if i go into the phone with winscp and modify a file (text file) and input the APN, username and password there, everytime I turn the phone on the info is going to be there for good. so I tried this and it worked.
so in the end after a long process of hacking and tweaking, I got my 1.1.1 phone with working youtube, working installer, working edge settings and with 8gb capacity (or rather 7.20gb blabla) acording to itunes.
one thing I do notice is, my 1.1.1 phone is slightly slower than a 1.0.2 phone, i did this by comparing them side by side, my mom has an iphone as well and it is 1.0.2 and i did notice safari among other things sometimes opened a bit faster.
so i guess my question is, should I keep my 1.1.1 phone? or should I go back to 1.0.2? basicaly what worries me is that I had to tweak so much crap that I am not sure if my phone is actualy working fine. everything seems fine, everything works.... but I guess since I had so much trouble geting it to work well in 1.1.1 it feels as if maybe I did something wrong along the way and maybe it's not supposed to be like that?
or maybe I should just not care, realise that I have a working 1.1.1 phone, unlocked and keep using it that way?
in summary, what I did from the moment I got my iphone to where I got it right now. is all this.
Opened the box.
got it to restore mode
loaded it with a 1.0.2 update i downloaded from somewhere.
used winguiinstaller to activate the phone.
used apptrap to get installer in the phone
used installer to download and install iphonesimfree (cost me 50 bucks)
ran iphonesimfree, which unlocked my phone.
ran a youtube fix in which I had to install the fix then copy a folder from the phone to my pc, which later I had to replace back into the phone once my phone was 1.1.1)
used my phone for a while like this and eventualy decided to upgrade so what I did was.
got the phone to restore mode and loaded the 1.0.2 firmware again.
activated with winguiinstaller.
used i brick to install several files into the phone
used i brick to install OpenSSH among other stuff
used winscp and entered commands pressing enter after each
load the 1.1.1 firmware (not entirely sure about the order here..)
used another program to enter more commands.
after several reboots, phone finaly activates.
enter more commands in console to get itunes to see it has 8gb of space instead of 300mb
open a file in the phone called UnknownCarrier.plist in which I add my APN and username and password, thanks to this now my phone doesn't forget the edge settings after I reboot)
for some reason, youtube now works, not sure exactly why but it does. (even before i replaced the folder I had copied before, I did anyways and youtube still worked afterwards)
Does that sound about right to you guys who know more about this? should I just keep my 1.1.1 iphone? or downgrade.
