Default Shorten URL's with tweetie 2

I am trying to shorten an URL whilst using Tweetie 2 on the iPhone. I compose a new tweet, then type (for example) www.google.com

I then tap the character count and tap url shorten. Nothing seems to happen and the menu disappears. I tap send and its just the normal link posting, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Yes, it's just the pre chosen one, is it biturl? I haven't signed up or anything though. Do I have to do anything other that select it from the prefs?

This will be a great help for the twitter users. I am liking the idea. Thanks to show the process of shortening in step by step.

Maybe it's set for a number of characters. There is a delay involved between asking it to shorten the URL and for it to actually happen.

Great feature and works well for me.

I do not think there is a set of number of characters. Step by step technique is already given here. Go with it. You will know it dude.

If it were up to me I would only shorten a URL if it needed to be shortened to fit in a normal-sized tweet. I'd always rather see the true URL rather than a shortened version, if at all possible.

As an extreme example http://google.com "shortened" to http://bit.ly/12345 is actually longer by two characters.

I use Tweetie 2 often, and haven't noticed any problems with short URL's
