My question is if 2.2 put that keyboard on all iphones, why do we need an app to enable it?

I downloaded the app. opened it and went to several of the stories clicked on other links and have done this several times. Followed the blog instructions to a T and I can't get the emoji selection on in keyboards. I get Qwerty and Kana no emoji. I am on 2.2 any suggestions?

I was on wifi. I went in turned wifi off to force my iphone to use 3g, went back and used the app to visit a couple of sites. Went back and emoji was available as a selection.

Because apple made it a Japanese exclusive thing. But it's nice for other parts of the world as some of us do use smileys and what not too.

If you were to go into the keyboard settings without the app or JBing, u would not see three options for keyboards in the Japanese settings. Only two, the two we can't read!

thanks! that's what I did... I turned off the wi-fi, and then followed the steps and it finally worked. It still took me a couple of times though when I did it on my friends phone!

Well thats not a good excuse.
Only the japanese are allowed to express emotion?

No, its because emoji is widely used in Japan, but nowhere else. Thats why in the US and UK and everywhere else only iPhones can see them. I think if ATT/Verizon/Tmobile/Sprint started letting their customers use them it would get very popular and everyone could send them to everyone.

All of our phones have the keyboard in there buts its just hidden...
If there is software in my phone that is not being used (or that is at least not being used when I want it to be used) then its stupid.
If the japanese iphone had different software then it might make more sense why we don't have the emojis

Well if they let everyone else use it everyone would think they could send it to everyone else and then when they find out that it doesnt work everyone will get mad and im sure there will be lawsuits. Believe it or not, not everyone knows someone with an iPhone so to most people it would be useless. Me on the other hand, my best friend has an iPhone and he happens to be the person I text the most so I get to use them all the time
