Fring - Adding Contacts

I've spent the day trying to figure out Fring. Wasn't easy as I have no prior experience using VoIP. I first logged into my Skype account and purchased SkypeOut Credits.

When I would go into my Buddy list in Fring, all contacts in my iPhone address book showed up. When I tried to call out any of the numbers, the call would terminate. I noticed that several contacts were on the list that were on my Skype contact list on my iMac. I had an extremely hard time trying to get this list off my phone. I would clear the list on Skype, unsubscribe from Skype on Fring, and resubscribe. No joy.

Eventually, I whittled my Skype contact list to a couple of numbers that I specifically added to the Skype list as Skype Out contacts. These contacts eventually reappeared on my Buddy List, and sure enough I was able to dial them using Skype Out.

Once working, Fring seems to do well. But, getting contacts sorted was an extreme pain.

If anyone else has an experience to share, please post. If anyone has suggestions with regard to a better way of getting contacts on the buddy list (these are not Skype ids; rather phone numbers), please post.

Yeah, I tried calling out to a regular cell number through Skype but it terminated. I thought I read somewhere that you had to add a +1 to the number with an area code but that didn't work for me either.

So, you just added the numbers to your Skype account? Makes sense. I'm not purchasing credits. I'm only going to do Skype to Skype calls. My friend sometimes runs out of minutes so this will help him.

I've noticed that if you have skype up and running on your computer and then you try to skype on the iphone, you're call will be terminated. So if this situation describes you, quit Skype on the computer and try via your iphone.

And like jarofclay73 wrote, you HAVE to use "+" before the country code (1 for the US) otherwise, again, the call will terminate.
