Default Docs To Go vs. Quick Office

I would like some opinions on this. To begin do either of them allow you open word documents from your email inbox? If not is there a way to transfer them so they can be opened? I am interested in portability and ease of synch mainly. Thanks!

Both programs have excellent documentation at iTunes that should answer these questions. I do know that docs to go will not edit excel files yet but quick office will. Both talk about email and WiFi sync. Check out the specifics at iTunes to be better informed.

I open PDFs and MP3s that I get in my emails on my iPhone automatically. I have Documents to Go installed and it works great. I only use Hotmail and Yahoo.

Sync is done with a Doc2Go desktop companion that's free. I've been using it for over a month and it works great. If you buy the app now they'll give you the free Excel editing update free.

When you get an email with pdf, audio file, excel or word file, all you do is click on it and it opens. After a while you even forget that Doc2Go is actually opening them because it's transparent. Just click on the attachment and it opens.

I got Documents to Go for $5 and it has lots of other features. It would work great for what you need. You might find another program that reads your PDFs and opens WORD docs but after lots of searching this one does that and lots of other things most likely for the same price too. Read this thread on why I bought it and it talks about other programs that sound like a good idea but then you get charged.... :

I just bit the bullet and bought Docs To Go. However, when I launch a word document from mail Docs to go does not open it. There is some default viewer coming up. any ideas on how to change this to Docs To Go?

I'm sending myself an email with a WORD attachment to see if I can duplicate what you're talking about.

OK I got the email. All I did was open the message and the attachment was there with the "W" logo. I touched it and it opened. Don't know what you're referring to.

No program can open email attachments. All attachments are opened by the built-in viewer.

To get Docs To Go to open files, you must copy the file to DTG via it's wifi sharing feature from a desktop machine. You CANNOT open attachments with any program other than the built-in viewers.

Some apps attempt a workaround by having you forward the email with the attachment to their special email address. You get a link which opens the app and downloads the attachment from their server. It's really stupid but it's all Apple's fault.

Thanks Ward and Aerocare. Ward nailed what my problem was. Not that I couldnt launch the attachment but I want to launch the attachment from mail with DTG.

Ward is right. If you receive an email with a Word attachment, you can open it from the email to read (not edit) it, and this is done via the built-in document reader. To open a document in DTG so that you can edit it, you must first open DTG and when you do you will see that there is no way to open an email attachment. You can open an attachment in QuickOffice but only if you forward the email to quickofficeconnect.com which is cumbersome, though workable.
