Tomtoms arrogance baffles me. They had the upper hand when 3.0 was announced. At that time everyone was anticipating their product. Apparently they do not realise that the competition has surpassed them. One would have thought that the first release of the software would have text to speech, just to impose it's superiority over the others. Good brand name recognition can only go so far.

I totally agree - I think TomTom is way off the mark here. Many of the other GPS apps out there have already surpassed TomTom's in terms of features and this ridiculously-priced cradle is just too much. What on earth are they thinking? Do they even realize how all of this comes across to potential customers? If this cradle came with a promo code to download the app at no cost, it would be one thing, but to pay $200 for the app and the cradle is just complete and utter nonsense.

I completely concur, however I'd still venture that there will be those willing to fork over the dough. People don't always make the most financially sound decisions.

Maybe they don't care if it isn't a big hit. Their standalone market may be more profitable and the iPhone is just not that important. Maybe they are testing the market (and relying on brand loyalty) and will reduce the price later if sales are weak at the current price. There has to be some kind of logic for setting this price. Right?
