Default The Lego iPhone holder for the Subaru Legacy

This weekend I had sudden inspiration to come up with an iPhone mount for my car. I was trying to figure out what materials to use, and Legos became the solution to my idea. I have tons of old Legos from my childhood just sitting in a box in the basement, so it's time to put them to good use.

The contraption that I built is better than I could have ever hoped for. It holds the iPhone very securly. There is zero wiggle while driving, and I can press on the screen, turn it off an on, and it doesn't slip or move. Now I can drive while controling my music, checking traffic, etc. without having to try and hold it in my hand.

The contraption fits perfectly in the accessory holder of my car, and wedges itself between the top/bottom and sides of the compartment, and gravity does the rest.

Here are some pictures. I actually built 2, one that holds the iPhone vertical, the other holds it sideways. I'm still using both trying to decide which one I like better. The one advantage of the horizontal one is that I can plug in a car charger to the iPhone while it's in this mount...I won't be able to do that on the vertical one.

Just the vertical mount

And another picture...gotta love those Legos!

Here is the horizontal mount

And the horizontal mount fitting in the accessory slot.

The horizontal mount w/ iPhone out of the slot.

There you have it...hope you guys get a kick out of this. It may not be the most stylish thing in the world. I could spend $35 and get a suction cup mount system, but there is something to be said about doing it yourself...especially when it turns out right!!!

I have to agree. That is pretty sweet. I would have given up shortly after starting.

Honestly cannot wait to get home and try to find all my old legos! I have a makeshift holder right now I made by taking 2 picture frame holders and jamming them underneath the accessory holder. The phone sits horizontally and I use the Aux chord into the headphone jack just like you have pictured. Hopefully I can build off your great idea, and come up with something alittle more sturdy.

WOW! That is a fantastic job! Who would have ever thought that would work? Better than having the iphone on your lap. Makes me wanna go out and buy some legos!

Thanks for sharing!

Not impressed. Expect to see my holder made out of Lincoln Logs...

Someday...

Erector set FTW.

Actually, I used Construx. Can anyone relate to that?

Lincoln Logs...now that would be impressive (and might go nice with the wood trim in my car!).
