Well, you know Apple... They were suing over the name Podium because it's a stand for an iPhone or an iPod. Since it's made for those devices, and Podium has Pod in the name, Apple issued a cease and desist to the folks at Pivatol when the podium first came out.
Obviously this didn't stop production, because they came out with 2 more, the Pearl and Carbon. But either they have a very high demand for the Platinum, or somehow Apple actually got them to stop production, allowing them to just sell off the remaining stock.
That would attribute to the Platinum being out of stock, and the much lower price point for the other 2 versions.
Personally, I think Apple can suck it on this one. I mean how many frivolous lawsuits do they need to have going on at one time? Is this just their legal department justifying the salaries of some of their lawyers?
