So I got my Pocketsolutions charger today. I had about half a charge left on my phone, so I left Flixwagon running and that was down to the 10% warning in no time (that program is a battery KILLER). Anyway, thought I'd give it 30 minutes of charge and see how well it does.

Please note, the battery screen I use obviously doesn't go up in 1% increments, but still you can see it charges rather quickly. But here's what I'm learning about these devices: The initial charge may be fast, but going to %100 charge seems to take longer. Not a big deal, as long as I can get a full charge on one set of AA's... the saga continues. I shall report back.

Edit: After 1 hour charge, I'm at about 70%

Initially, I'm pretty impressed with this thing for $15 shipped. It's very lightweight, but seems pretty well-built. Nice touches like the power switch with LED (though I could do without that if it drains the batteries, come to think of it) and the little rubber feet are pretty nice for something this low on the food chain, price-wise. I hope it lives up to its claim of 2.5 charges per battery set.

I got to use this for the first time out in the wild this weekend. I love it! I have probably used up about 2.5 (maybe a little less) full charges on one set of batteries and they still have juice left.

Are you using rechargeables or alkalines? If the former, what mAh rating? I'm using 2700's and I still cant' get 2.5 charges from 1 set. Do you have a V1 or a 3G, Josh?

Interesting stuff, I live in the UK and I am thinking of building the MintyBoost with 4xAA batteries to charge up my 3G iPhone and keep it in my backpack. There have been a few times where I have hit 20% such as on train journeys and I've had to turn my phone off so I can make calls later in the day.

psylichon have you managed to get a full charge on the iPhone 3G yet from 2700mAH using either the MintyBoost or the PocketSolutions battery booster?

Hey Josh.... do you find your PocketSolutions doesn't charge properly while you're using the phone?

Today I had a long concert recording that was quite boring. So I went through a lot of iPhone juice. I had two sets of freshly charged batteries and they were both showing the "fully-charged" plug icon within 5 minutes of plugging them in (I was at the 20% warning... that icon simply means your iPhone can't pull any more juice out of the charging source). But if I locked the phone and then connected it, I would get a nice fast charge on it. I definitely charged my phone 1 full time today at least, and I still have juice in the pack. I just had to do it in bursts between actually using the phone.

I wonder how long I'll be able to do these "minicharge" sessions. It seems to get you to half-power from the 20% point pretty quickly!

first, to answer your previous post, I am using energizer advanced lithium (non rechargable). I cannot find the mAh rating. I am using a 3G. I don't think I used the phone fir more than 5 full minutes while charging it but if I did then it was working like normal. I never really just let it sit and charge either, I would plug it in for 10-30 minutes then take unplug and use it for a while. it does charge very quickly though

Thanks styfle. Do you want to try it for the experience of making a circuit, or for the end result? Because, if it's the latter, you should go for the PocketSolutions charger. It's cheaper and more effective than the mintyboost.

But definitely not as cool

If you know how to weld, soldering will be easier. Lower melting points, smaller scales, and no blinding light (just a smoky smell that you grow to actually appreciate). As long as you don't have jittery hands, you're gold!

Dammit...

Well I want to do it for both the experience and the end result.
I spend hours tweaking things. Check out my clan's site in my sig or this other site that I just mess around with: http://styfle.890m.com/
