hmmm i have an alpine head unit, not sure if i remember seeing a port on the front

If you have an AUX port you would know. You mentioned it in your other post.
The way you previously describe everything, the only thing you were missing was plugging the 3.5mm cable into the Auto pilot. Cable runs from the Auto pilot to the radio, and the iPod cable plugs into the phone.

Then you'll need a tape adapter (if you have a cassette player) or an FM transmitter (if you don't). Know that FM transmitters are notorious for not playing well with iPhones, so be sure to read a lot of reviews of whatever unit you may plan to purchase.

I use this FM Transmitter and it is flawless. You put it in international mode, use FM 87.7 or 87.9, and you are good to go. I have used this all around town and out of town as well. You will get the "do you want to put in airplane mode" pop up, but hit no and calls will come thru. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.
