Default FM Transmitter

I am considering the purchase of an FM transmitter for my iPhone so I can listen in the car. Are there any good ones or should I just go with the hard wired kit?

Depending on where you live (number of radio stations) you might find yourself frustrated with the consistency. I'd look at some hard wired kits just to see the cost and install differences. I use a USA spec device but it's a pretty tough install. So find out how much hassle the hard wire would be.

Go with the hard wired kit. The FM kit always sounds really crappy and the volume is almost always low and it's very frustrating getting a clear signal. Hard wire is the way to go IMO.

You will hate the transmitter as everyone has said go hard wire you will regret it if you don't. My 2 cents

I agree with the above sentiments. The compressed sound of FM will eventually drive you crazy. Either go hard-wired or invest in a deck that has an AUX input so that you can link your iPhone to the radio through the headphone jack. That's what I do, and it sounds pretty good.

I mainly use the AUX hookup for listening to out-of-area streaming radio station through WunderRadio, though it works great for music as well.

For what it's worth, this one works really great for me. I tried a few cheap ones ($50-$60) and they were crap. Nothing but static all the time. I have had the iTrip for several months now and made several trips out of town. Very pleased with it.

I have this one and it works fine for me. One thing I HATE is how when my phone is sending/receiving some sort of data, you'll hear that weird noise as if the phone was next to a speaker of some sort.

It's the original Tunecast by Belkin.

Prior to getting the iPhone I picked up simple Monster FM transmitter for the iPod...it does not charge but it works well. Works with the iPhone also. Now I am looking for one that charges as well and checking out the Griffin Road Trip.

Some FM Transmitters cannot be secure properly. This is another factor to consider.
