Just thought I'd give a little mini review of some speakers I bought off off Woot.com recently. I got them for $13 shipped, which is a true steal, but they can still be found for a little over $20 shipped:

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from such cheap speakers, but the build quality is excellent. The enclosure is water resistant, and I went with white so it wouldn't absorb so much heat... perfect for the beach!
The inside has enough room for an iPod/iPhone and some spare batteries, perhaps a few other things. The iPod compartment is padded with a velcro strap to hold everything down. If you want to use your player outside the box, there is a pass-through port with a rubber plug on the inside to keep things water-resistant.
All-in-all I'm impressed with the attention to detail. The AM/FM tuner is a nice touch for radio-less iPods.
I have some portable JBL speakers that sound a bit more hifi than these, but I really like these for the design and how LOUD they go... really quite remarkable for something running on 4xAAs.... Certainly loud enough for nearly any portable situation you could think of. There's a separate bass control that you can dial down as you turn it up to keep it from distorting too much.
I haven't run through the first set of batteries, so I'll report back on its efficiency. But I'm very pleased with the purchase overall.
