Default Screen sometimes does not light up.

I looked at my phone today and the screen was very dull. I removed my sunglasses thinking that they were the problem. They were not. The sun was shining so I shaded the screen with my hand to block the light so I could see it. That did not brighten things up either. It seemed as if the brightness was all the way down or something. After closer inspection, the backlight was not on at all!!! I could see icons and navigate through the phone but the backlight was not on. I was starting to get concerned. I hit the sleep/wake button and everything returned to its normal state, but it still freaked me out a bit. I also have audio issues with the 3Gs. I have the fading clicks when typing, and the dull/thud sounding clicks sometimes.

I was just wondering if other people have had the backlight issue. I know alot of people are having issues with the audio, I was just throwing it in there just in case others are having similar issues. I have reset my phone. I have also restored, although from a backup of my V1. This does not seem to help the audio issues though. I really do not want to restore fresh.......that would suck!!!

I don't know if this will help but I could barely see the screen at night. I turned off the auto-brightness and it is much better.

Questions: (i) Was your iPhone in direct sunlight for any length of time when you first observed this? And, (ii), is the problem gone? If you answered yes to both of these questions then maybe you temporarily changed the properties of the screen (brought about b/c of sunlight-induced heating of the screen). I suggest this b/c some displays (on other electronic gadgets) will suffer if left in direct sunlight.

I've experienced the no backlight as well. Maybe Apple will fix this on the next FW update.

My phone was not left in direct sunlight. The problem was resolved right after I hit the home button to shut the screen off and turned it back on. I was just seeing if anyone else has experienced these issues.

I had this happen only once so far. I simply rebooted the phone and everything worked fine.

This is pretty common - I've experienced it a few times, and some other people said they have as well. It's a bug in the 3.0 software - hopefully it's fixed in 3.1.
