Is there a way to tell before buying a 3GS?

I got a 16GB 3GS cuz I was cheap and didn't want to spend the extra 100.00 for 16 more GBs...but now loading my iPod up I'm kinda wishing I got the 32GB. I bought it at Best Buy and going to see if I can exchange for the 32GB or not. If I can, the only thing I'm afraid of is that it will have the bios thingy where you can't jailbreak it.

Any way to tell if the phone has the new unjailbreakable bios in it before buying?

If you just restore the phone there will be no way possible that they can tell it was jailbroken.

The OP was asking if there was any way he could tell if the new iPhone has the new bootrom on it that supposedly can't be jailbroken yet.

Cjvdh, napoleon is right...I'm wondering if there's anyway to tell if a new in package iPhone is the new or old bios. My luck Best Buy will tell me "sure, come and exchange"...ill get the 32Gigger only to get home and find out I can't JB it yet.

Pretty sure you can jailbreak all of the new firmware out right now using blackrain. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Rumor has it that Apple has made changes to newly released models that prevent them from being jailbroken. This is what the OP is refering to. I'm not sure what bootrom version number is supposed to be un-jailbreakable and you can't check it until it's out of the box.

If someone wants to tell me what info to look for (assuming I can do it myself), I just got my replacement iPhone today, in case anyone wants to compare it to their launch 3GS...

you can check by going into DFU mode and seeing which version you have

This is the new one that can't be JB'd...well it could but only certain ways it will work
