I have a NEW 3gS, white 16GB, and after 90 days, there are SEVERAL hairlines cracks by the ports and the silent button. Since day 1, this damn thing has been in a very protective hard shelled case and has never been bumper or dropped - Now this! I have been avoiding the bar appointment because I didnt want to have to re-jailbreak and all that but one of the cracks is getting worse. I've had other phones for years and never once have they developed cracks on their own.
What do you guys/gals thionk the genius will advise? In my opinion, he's gonna say he's never heard of it, it's only cosmetic, and I should just deal with it. Your thoughts?
If that's in fact what is told to me, do I have any other recourse as the buyer of a premium product? I mean, really...relatively of course, if you bought a nice watch and after a couple months some of the bezel's "paint" wore off...would you just live with it? I mean, sure, it still runs just fine. But if all you wanted was a watch to tell time, you could have gone and bought a TIMEX for $20 at Target, not the nice watch you just bought. It's the same with the iPhone - I could have gotten a ton of other so called smartphones for a fraction of the cost of a new 3G S...Aesthetics should be part of the package...
I have a bad feeling about my appointment...
No discussion of cracks on EIC.
Seriously, I know others have gotten replacements for case cracks, so I think you have a good chance for success.
yeah - we'll see. I know it'll be a refurb and wont be black - which, at least, I heard makes it hard to "see" the cracks
Refurbs rock from Apple. I'm a big fan of them.
I'm sure they do, but I can't get it out my head that I paid for a new phone less than 90 days ago and am now getting a refurb - they should refund me some case on top of it
Why? Did they sell you a case, too?![]()
Ive had my white 3GS replaced twice for cracks. They are quite adamant that they wont swap it for a black one, and wont compensate you.
However, my refurb was in a better condition that my new one was when it arrived.
After having it swapped twice for cracking, the genius told me "most people put up with cracks and if it happens again, it wont be swapped". Yea right. We'll see about that.
I read the title of this post a little too fast and was wondering what in the HELL was going on at Apple Stores nowadays, and if the DEA was aware...![]()
Apple replaced my white 3G twice for cracks. The only question they ever asked me was what kind of case i kept it in. I never kept that iphone in a protective case- just a belt clip type case.
I now keep my 3GS in a protective case and so far no cracks. It's a known problem with the white iphone- they will replace it for you.
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The lights will inspire you![]()
OK, so I just got back from the Apple store. The guy was cool, looked at the cracks, and 100% acknowledged that it's a KNOWN issue - He asked me if I baked up my device and swapped it out within minutes - I wasn't in the store fr more than 20. Pretty good. He also said that if this one cracks, that I should keep replacing the fuc*&r...also cool. What pisses me off is this - when I called about a month ago, these "genuises" claimed they have never heard of a cracking issue - BS! Before this guy even saw the defect, he said "...is it by the silent switch?" anyway, back in biz...
