Not sure if that was posted yet. But I received an email from apple about delays in activating my account.
Dear Apple Customer,
Thank you for your recent Apple Store order. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in your iPhone activation.
We are still resolving the issue that was encountered while activating your iPhone with AT&T. Unfortunately, due to system issues and continued high activation volumes, this could take us up to an additional 48 hours to complete.
On Monday, you'll receive an email from Apple with an iTunes Store credit in the amount of $30. We hope you will enjoy this gift and accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this delay has caused.
Thank you for choosing Apple.
Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team

I have the EXACT same situation!!I used another lines eligibility and I never had to wait for the phone to work cause I used the sim from the iphone 3G. All you will have to probably do is give the sim that came with the phone to the person who's line you used to activate. That person's became inactive today and had to put the new one in and activate on itunes since it's an iphone. What a nice thing that they are doing even though it was probably at&t who had the problem. One question, are you having any problems making calls and being able to use data at the same time?

I called and they said apple wanted the 3GS's to have new sims so I am wondering if we will need new ones even though I have a 3G sim from my iphone 3G. Not a big deal they will replace it for free if you are having problems.
I tried using data when i was on a call. It worked just fine.

Thats awesome, it sucks you all had to wait to activate your new phones but at least apple is being cool about the whole issue.

I activated my 3GS with my husband's line (from v1 phone), then put my old 3G sim in 3GS and put the 3GS sim in the 3G for him.
So I am using my old 3G sim in 3GS and I have no problems with calls or data. Everything works fine.
Did they say why they wanted new sims in 3GS? Maybe only to discourage switching lines that are not eligible for upgrade...
It's probably just that my sim needs to be replaced. I don't have problems using either of them as long as I don't try to use data while on the phone, just like the limits of the original iphone and edge. I was on 3G too so I shouldn't have had a problem.
They said they were fine with using someone else's upgrade but were not prepared when Apple wanted the 3GS to come with a new sim. Apple is the one who wanted the new sims to be used but at&t said as long as your sim has a 3G logo on it and worked in a 3G phone then it should be fine. I think it is just apple trying to have the newest equipment in the phone for best performance.
I was able to activate in store. Is the $30 gift card given to just online orders that cannot activate? Or is it in store as well? I waited about 3 hours in line when I was customer #29 cause the workers there were absolute idiots.
I actually checked again and I can use data and voice at the same time must have just been the network where I was.
Joon, I think you would have received an email from apple just like the one in the first post. Even though Cliffeman, Kokogirl, and I didn't even have to wait because we were just using the line for the upgrade and didn't need the new sim we just used the one we used before. The sim cards we were given must have taken until sunday (longer than the 48hrs that they said on the itunes activation screen on friday) so they are just compensating us for the long wait without a phone they thought we had. Since you were activated in the store and probably didn't have to wait until sunday for the phone to work, I doubt you will get one![]()
