My iphone's receiver is completely dead so I have to put it on speaker to hear the person I'm talking to. It's been like this for the last 4 months. I tried all the so-called fixes but nothing worked. It's jailbroken and I have pretty much every useful app on it including live TV through Orb, video recorder, all the game emulators, etc. I'll get the 3G only if it can be jailbroken and I can put all my apps on it.

So far I have no reason to upgrade. I have the V1 phone and with the firmware 2.0 it will do everything I want it to.

I'll wait until the end of the year for the 32GB iPhone... THEN I'll pounce.

I'm switching because I need more space than 8gb I got now.

Dude may I suggest you going to the apple store? Just back up and restored it and take it to the store and tell them about the issue you are facing.. I am almost 100% sure that you will get a replacement. They still got replacement at their stores. This is how I got the brand new couple of weeks ago(the top 1 cm touch screen stopped working and not to mention the scratches and dents it had from over 8 months of usage). I thought they might be out of iPhones but in less than 10 minutes I was coming out with brand new iPhone though they said it could be refurbished one too.. But who cares as long as you get the working phone.
Good LUCK

Because I am tired of missing calls while my iPhone is transmitting on edge. It is prehistoric like dial-up. Plus I have wanted an iPhone in black for quite some time.

I really don't wanna lose all my apps. And I'm still on firmware 1.0.2 jailbroken. Probably the only person in the world still on 1.0.2 but I haven't had any problems... just the receiver dying on me.

Do you think they'll give me a 3g iphone if I went in next week to get this replaced? Or they'll just replace it with a refurbished old iphone.

I have several reasons for upgrading to the new iPhone, one for the 3G because it'll allow me to surf the Internet and talk at the same time plus it's faster. Secondly, I'm terrible with directions so the GPS would be greatly appreciated and then finally, 16 GB would be a bonus as I've only got 8.01 GB of music though I'm sure I'll still be switching my playlists in and out to make more room for videos when I feel like it. Also, I like knowing that the audio has been improved since I'm hearing impaired and while I can hear people pretty well outside with traffic, the audio improvements should make it easier

More reasons:

-Because I've had the V1 for a year now and thats WAYYYY too long to have 1 cell phone.

-Because many of the 3rd party apps will not function proper on edge, such as streaming etc.

-Because the mic & speaker is supposedly improved.

-Because I'm tired of the faux GPS on gen1

-Because the color silver is so 2004

-Because I can watch crispy youtube anywhere not just on wifi

-Because hopefully the mail application functions more reliably in the new hardware?

-Because I can snag one for only $199/299.
