Default Possessed broken LCD

I recently bought an iphone 3G 16gb from a woman on craigslist for $125. The only problem was that the screen did not show anything after she dropped it. It still rang when called, made sounds, etc. I tested all of this. When I looked at the screen in the sun I saw distorted lines and boxes, so I figured it's just a quick LCD swap and everything will be ok. I was wrong.

My friend, who has his own 3g 16gb, offered to let me try his LCD just to make sure it worked. After I swapped LCD's and tried to turn it on, nothing. Then when my friend put his LCD back into his iPhone, his LCD didn't work!! WTF?? Can anyone explain to me what could be the problem? And no, it's not that we hooked it up wrong. That's a noob mistake and I quadruple checked. Please help.

I'm sorry, what links? I posted this on a couple of forums, maybe I accidentally copied over some links. My bad, thanks for correcting.

No worries... it happens. I'm afraid I don't know how to help you, though. I would fear you damaged a ribbon cable somehow in the transfer.
