Default iTunes - Movies - Releasing File Space

I rented a movie from iTunes and noticed when the movie expired it does not return the space as free space. When you rent the movie you have 30 days to view it but once you start viewing it you get 24 hours to watch it. iTunes shows I have no rented movies in my library but I noticed the file space is still being occupied in iTunes. To verify this I deleted all my music videos and the file space was returned to be reused.

It shows I am using 1.26GB Video even though I have not videos loaded. I synced with my iPhone 3G.

How do I get that space back?

Capacity 14.64 GB
Audio 8.58 GB
Video 1.26 GB
Photos 6.7 MB
Other 558.4 MB
Free Space 4.26 GB

Thanks in advance for your help.

I see this issue frequently - hopefully Apple will fix it officially soon. To do it manually, open the iPod application on your iPhone, and then hold down the home button for 10 seconds to force-quit it. This will clear the memory previously held by the now-defunct rented movie and you should be able to see this in the General/About Settings menu.
