iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS is worth it.

Where are they selling for $400? I'd like to know. Why would someone buy an 8GB iPhone 3G for $400, when they can go get one for $99 with a new contract? I guess if they wanted to one and didn't want to start a contract then maybe. I don't know. What do you think?

Because they're still $400 out-of-contract, and AT&T sim-locked.

Anyway, for me, it's not worth it. I'm tired of selling my soul for another two years to AT&T every time I want a new phone...

Moving to the UK would not sort your problems out, yes, some of our contracts are 18months but they aren't that great. The actual cost to upgrade is an absoulte joke. You would think o2/apple would have took advantage of the economic climate and sold the phone cheaper with a carrier.

.screw the 3gs......cydia makes upp for what the 3g doesnt have....going from 3g to 3gs would be like turning in yur red ferrari for a dark red one....and paying for it.....they both do the same thing.

and if i need lightning fast internet i'll get on my laptop....but if im on the go....the 3g can get the job done.

your probally right cause when my cousin came home with hers and my mom looked at her 3gs and my 3g she was like"so this is what all the fuss is abot?!?!?i dont get it"(insert hard trini accent here lol)..
i think if the design was diff more pple will be willing to update.. and thats y so many of my friends are waiting till 2010-11 cause they say the design of the phone will be diff.

We're all members of the iphone family and whenever I see someone with an iphone I'm happy, whether its a 2G, 3G or 3GS!! (I actually smile to myself like a fool!!).
I think it all depends on a person's needs. Its subjective.
As I said in the Introductions section, I maybe the only one who bought a 3G 2days before the launch of the 3GS. And I didn't care!!! For my needs I knew that 16gb were moooore than enough, I have an 8gb ipod and it's not even half way full!!! I'm not interested in the camera cos I use my Lumix. And plus there were the new features coming with the new FW. So I'm extremely happy of my choice. Speed? My 3G is already fast: apps open and close quickly and web pages load in few seconds, how much faster can it get?! Maybe from the eye of an expert there's a lot of difference, but for me, a very normal and basic user, there's no difference!!!
And as kayyg wrote, for the big stuff I will always use my beloved white macbook!!!

There is no conflict. Just good natured fun. If you are happy with whatever version...wonderful! I enjoy the 3GS and am happy with the upgrade (from 3G). Speed is important TO ME for the apps I use in my workplace. The faster I can access information, the better for me. The added speed for the internet and over all performance of the device is a bonus. Maybe a lot of 3GS owners will be saying the same thing with the next version>>>not enough of an upgrade to make me switch.

Personally, having the quality digital camera and video camera where I can edit and publish makes it worth it for me. Voice Command is cool and makes it safer to call people while driving. It also does seem a little faster launching and doing things. I've had all 3 versions now.

Again, I have gotten some great footage at the park and mall with my daughters with the video feature and the quality is nice, which I would not have had otherwise.

You should've seen the arguments when the 3G first came out. In fact, MANY v1 users here still won't upgrade to 3G S because to them it's not worth it.

So, to each his/her own.

For me, I can't justify paying the unsubsidized or no-commitment price for features I won't use most of the time.

With that said, the 3G S is REALLY, REALLY fast. Much more responsive. The faster processor is probably the BIGGEST and BEST upgrade in the S. If the speed on my 3G was unusable I would consider upgrading.

Note: This is not to convince anybody that the 3Gs is better. In my own opinion, it is better than the 3G and this is my reasoning.

I just switched over to 3Gs yesterday after having the 3G for 4 months! After going through this thread, it seems like all people talked about was the speed of the browser when that's not the main selling point, while it's one of them it's certainly not the main one. I still have both of the phone and I did several test yesterday, it ranges from typical general thing like going into setting to running a heavy duty apps. The phone is so much more enjoyable for me when it take a split of a second to open something as opposing a few second. To some that might be fine, but it gets on my nerve sometimes. Everything is realtively faster and there is no lag at all.
Beside the speed, the camera is where it's at. Speed and an improved camera is what sold me. I tend to take a lot of random pics while being out with friends with my phone so this was a huge selling point for me.

Here is a picture comparison between the 3G and the 3Gs, both lenses are clean, both were held steady to the best of my ability.
