I live in downtown Denver, an area in which several AT&T representatives have told me there are three 3G towers within a five mile radius of my home, and I have yet to be able to use the 3G network.
I purchased my phone on launch day and I have yet to be able to take advantage of the faster network as it (3G service) has been turned off since day two. I occassionally turn it on to see if there have been any improvements but none to date.
I live in what is supposed to be a 3g enabled city.
However, 3g is always very limited, often dropping down to EDGE.
Outside of my city, 3g is fine and dandy. No problems with dropped calls, just switching every now and then.

3GS was somewhat dissapointing.
no problems here, perfect reception
co-workers get perfect reception and we all live in different cities
I've had two 3g iphones since launch (exchanged one for cosmetic reasons) BOTH got/get perfect reception.
I had a blackjack II before iphone, it is also a 3g phone, and my iphones reception blows it away.
guess I'm lucky?

I live in the Evansville area of INDIANA and my 3G recieption is never off... I usualy get atleast 3-4 bars of signal. Even outside of Evansville around boonville area is where it seems to drop off 3G ad switch to EDGE. But that is in the middle of tons of trees as soon as I get out of the trees back to more of a sub area. I pick 3G back up... I've read tons if posts about problems with that iPhone 3G. But I only have a few softwear problems, all hardwear is working fine... Which is unusual because I usualy get the ones that are bad!
I am on Edge 95% of the time and I find that if I don't turn off 3G my phone tries to switch to 3G when it really can't, and it loses reception, then switches back to Edge. This behavior causes 30 sec to 1 min of lost reception and happens regularly. I just leave 3G off unless I am in an area that I know has it.
i'm in the dc area (work in the city, live right next to it) and there are definitely 3g dead spots - including near my office, which drives me nuts. close to 100% of calls on the phone in certain locations get dropped.
I'm in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, but also commute near downtown LA. I get poor 3G reception overall and at times I have to turns off 3G so that I get a better signal considering the phone won't switch to Edge until there are no bars in 3G.
