Default iPhone 3G and T-Mobile

Hi,
Is anyone using the new iPhone 3G with T-Mobile?? I am thinking about buying one, and wanted to get some advice or feedback from others who did it. I have a first generation iPhone now and it works with T-Mobile after unlocking and jailbreaking, but not sure about the 3G.

Please help!!

The biggest issue in using the 3G iPhone on T-Mobile is that you will NOT get a 3G signal. T-Mobile's 3G network is on a frequency that the iPhone (and any other smartphone not specifically made for T-Mobile's network, as well) does not work with. EDGE is the best you'll get on a 3G iPhone on T-Mobile. If I were on T-Mobile, I wouldn't bother getting a 3G iPhone unless GPS was absolutely essential.

I could not agree with macgirl more! I would like to add that I don't think that the GPS warrants the upgrade. It's just not worth it if you are on T-Mobiles network.

All depends where you are. My 3G works perfectly with T-Mobile.

The only way that is possible is with a Unlocked iPhone, US locked iPhones do not support T-Mobiles 1700mhz Upload and 2100Mhz Download Spectrum. The Unlocked phones purchased abroad appear to work with T-Mobile US 3G.

Thanks for your responses, the reason why I want to get the 3G is partly because of the GPS but more so because my iPhone that I am using now is only a 4gb and I can't fit all my apps and songs on it so it I do not have any songs on it, and I want to be able to use it as an iPod too. It is more expensive for me to buy a 1st generation iPhone with 8 or 16gb than it would be for me to buy a new 3G because a friend of mine is selling them and would give it to me cheaper.

Please give me your thoughts, I really appreciate it!

Yes, that's what I have, an unlocked 3G.

Nope, still not possible - even the unlocked iPhones sold outside of the U.S. don't have radios that work on the 1700MHz band of T-Mobile's 3G network in the U.S. I have one of those unlocked iPhones and tried a T-Mobile SIM (that came from a T-Mobile G1) in it and it would only connect to their EDGE network.

You must be outside of the U.S. T-Mobile's 3G network in other countries are on one of the "standard" bands with which the iPhone's 3G radio works.

Otherwise, no iPhone 3G's work on T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band. I also have a factory unlocked 3G purchased in New Zealand where they are sold legitimately, and the UMTS specs on the New Zealand Apple site state this 3G compatibility: UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz). I'd challenge anyone to find proof that Apple makes a version of the 3G iPhone that will work on the 1700MHz band.
