Default inside scoop on iphone 2

as of right now you can only buy an iphone 2 if you are eligible for an upgrade or are a new at&t customer. Typically you are eligible for an upgrade if you only have about 8 months remaining on your current contract, this of course may change b/c as of right now there is NO price for no commitments when buying the iphone. Also any customer that has bought an iphone prior to 5/27/08 are automatically eligible to purchase the iphone 2 at the 199 price tag (way to go apple and not screw us early adopters )

Company discounts will now apply to the voice and data plans when you have the iphone 2. So if you have the $39.99 voice plan (450 min.) and $30.00 internet package, both will be discounted.

return policy is now 30 days as opposed to 14 days.

MUST BE ACTIVATED at point of purchase.

customer's that bought the phone on 5/27/08 or later will have the option to return the iphone and pay a 10% restocking fee and purchase the new iphone 2 by no later than 8/1/08.
(note the new return policy is only if you purchased your phone from an At&t store)

data plans will be either $30 for regular consumers or $45 if they need the enterprise package.

As of right now at&T has not figured out the price for the 3g iphone for non qualifed upgrades.

THERE WILL NOT BE A "NO COMMITMENT" PRICE FOR THE IPHONE 2, IT WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A 2 YEAR CONTRACT.

I'm fine with all this b/c I am an at&t customer, but all you t-mobiler's, it doesn't look to good. =0(

That doesn't sound too bad.

So what you are saying is if you are not eligible for an upgrade (upgraded with at&t within last 2 months lets say) you will not be able to get the iphone, period! or you will only be able to get it for the $199 or $299 price when you are eligible for upgrade and pay more for the phone if you are not eligible like with other phones on the market..? The way you made it sound was as if you will NOT be able to get the phoner at ALL without a new at&t contract or upgrade eligibility and that is just crazy!

You can get a new contract, it will void your current one and start new as on 7/11/08..

You will be able to get a new iphone for 199/299 and extend the contract for another 2 years.

According to the Att Spokesmen, it just will replace your current contract, and start a new one. Did not mention a cancel fee.

No you wont pay to cancel, the "3g contract" will supersede the old "edge contract". Basically they have you trapped for another two years and you get the new phone for 199/299, or until apple releases the new reincarnation of the iphone next year lol

You pay 10 bucks more for 3g per month and ATT earns back its subsidy and apple sells a ton of iphones.

actually to my understanding u can not just void ur contract when ur only 3 months in and get a new contract, and get a discount on a new phone, that was just a dumb remark.

what I meant was as of right now, remember the phone isn't going to launch until july 11th, but as of right now, at&t has not figured out how to price the iphone for customer's that are not eligible for an upgrade. Only customers that have the old iphone can upgrade to the 199 / 299 price even if they are not eligible for an upgrade, but say you just recently bought a blackberry 3 months ago, well you still have 21 months left in contract and are not eligible for an upgrade, and as of right now at&t has no price for the customers in that situation. granted they may allow you to void ur current contract to make a new one only for the new iphone 2, but traditionally, if a customer has more than a year left in their contract, voiding it is nearly impossible. think about it, if you could void ur contract with out early termination fees, and get a new phone for a discounted 2 year price every month at&t would lose ALOT of money. Now seeing that the iphone is now at&t benchmark phone, they may allow some flex and say hey if your going to get the iphone 2 we will void ur contract and let u get the iphone for 199/299 and start a new 2 year agreement, or maybe they will charge those customers a premium to do so, but as of RIGHT now there is no answer to this situation.

also the data plan is 10 dollars more not b/c at&t is going to pocket 10 more and make their money back kind sir, but b/c you are now going to utilize more bandwidth b/c the 3g access + the enriched web browsing it makes sense to charge more money. Even blackberrys that use the slow edge network, u need to pay 30 dollars a month for the internet.

so hope this cleared some air with the bad information some people have given in here.

I was saying if you had an iphone that you purchased and wanted a new 3g iphone you would be able to get a new contract. Sure there are variables in every situation but most people here have the original iphone and want the new one, so the blackberry point you made is pretty much moot.

Yes the $10 more is going to be for the increased bandwith but its also tacked on to increase revenue, edge data would use the same bandwith only at a slower rate. The enriched surfing is due to the iphone itself and has nothing to do with ATT.

The $10 more for 3g will also go toward recouping the subsidy. The same way that texting has an outrageous markup.

ATT would never not allow an iphone owner not to upgrade and increase their monthly bill, it doesnt make business sense.

With that said I think its a good deal, I wouldnt mind 10 bucks more for double the edge speed.

It should not make a difference if you have a iphone v1 or any other at&t phone. To single out the iphone people and only allow them to take advantage of the new iphone prices cant be right. They will either allow anyone with an at&t contract upgrade for the new prices or do what they do with every other phone they sell on their network... Discount the ones eligible or make the ones that are not pay more for the phone. They have been doing that for years. Its not an iphone only club! Now if they allow ANYONE to upgrade for theses new prices no matter what at&t plan you have at any given time, THAT will draw people in and from the look of the specs and terms of the new iphone, this will be needed... IE - activation only in-store, lack of features aticipated, posibility of never being jailbroken like v1.... app store to pay for everything you install, etc...
