Well you must have really strong 3G signal where you are?

Kinda dissapointing my Motorola 3G phones get full 5 bar signal but my iPhone only gets 2-4 bars avg here at home.

I'm on EDGE, not 3G. I have 3G turned off...

People had this same feeling for the v1. Apparently people's hands were blocking one of the necessary inner pieces of the phone's hardware. I never noticed a difference.

LOL, no it doesn't occur with EDGE.

It's not a feeling. You can remove your hand and watch it get 2 or three more bars in a few seconds, and then replace your hand at watch them go away again. You can repeat this test and get the same results.

Obviously, if you are already getting 5 bars of 3G then you aren't going to see any improvement, however if you have 1 or 2 bars while holding the phone like one normally would, it is at least possible to get this behavior and the page load time improvement seems to support the claim as well.

I've noticed this too. Though I'm not sure it happened on the one I had before taking it back for a different fault.

Check out this video I found:

As far as I can tell, more bars do not equal faster internet speeds.
