Default Here is a strange one

Driving down 99 yesterday, 3G 16G plugged into the truck power, turned the phone on for Gmaps to check progress and up pops a message "you are attempting to use a device that in not compatible with iphone" so I clicked ok and another message popped up saying if you want to use this feature you must turn off airplane mode. So plugging the phone into aux power put the phone in airplane mode, that's the only conclusion I can come up with. My phone is stock, no hacks and the latest firmware. WTF?

I get that message when I haven't pushed the charger all the way into the iPhone.

Happens all the time with 3rd party accessories. I've seen that pop up with my v1 over a year ago. Ignore it. Do not turn airplane mode on unless you want to miss calls. I have no problem saying "NO" to that message. Nothing bad is going to happen. Almost seems like a pointless error message if you ask me

Yeah, I have had messages like this before. Just ignore them and go on.

It's a failsafe message because some 3G-compatible accessories will react when calls come in and all it's saying is that the one you're using won't know what to do if you get a call. It could also mean that if the accessory was meant to charge the phone (as many car accessories can), it may not on the 3G phone.

well after reading these posts I guess I'm not getting that msg from not putting the charger in all the way. I guess it was just a coincidence b/c when I see that message I push in the charger more and it goes away (or maybe I hit no and don't realize it . . .)

One reason to put it in Airplane mode is in case a call comes, you won't hear that annoying interference if you are plugging it into an external speaker system of some sort.
