Default erased SMS message

Ok so here's the deal, I accidently deleted a conveversation that quite frankly, I didn't want to delete at all, and it's not a bigdeal but I would love to see if there's a way to get it back.

Anyone out there know if there's a way to get back an SMS conversation between you and someone back after it's been deleted? Either in general or of there's a program you can get?

I have an iPhone 3g and I have jailbroken it; aka I have cydia and such.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

if its something you have a back up of you would just have to restore from that back up. if you did not back up from that point i dont think youll be able to get it back

Julie is correct. Do you recall when you did your last iPhone backup? If it was recent (depending upon when the conversation started), you may be able to get some or all of it back with a Backup restoration.

I don't know of any other way unless you specifically were using a program available in the App Store to log/save your SMS threads. I know there are some out there, I just cannot recall the name right now...

Hey thanks! That's really great to know! Now just to double check so that I do it correctly and don't totally wipe my phone haha how do I just restore from backup?

Sync it, cancel sync if I have it set up to auto sync..then what? I know there's a restore button, do I click that? Cause my understanding was that the restore button alone made it reset to facotry settings.

Anyways! What steps do I have to take to do this correctly?

Thanks again! You both are great!

DONT SYNC!!! thats the main thing you dont want to do. Syncing creates a new back-up of your phone.

You want to restore, then the phone will ask you if you want to set the phone up as a new phone or restore from backup. Just hit the restore from backup. That will restore your phone to the point at which you last synced.

I'm wondering if all else failed if ATT would have some type of record they could re-create. I once heard a story of a man who accidentally deleted a VM from his wife. I don't remember all the details but Verizon was able to get it back AFTER he deleted it. The story was sad because the man's wife had passed and that was the last message she left.

I do know that when you look at your detailed bill they keep a record count (bytes too!!) of all SMS. I think that it is quite possible that a record on their end exists. The reason I say this is due to law enforcement issues i.e. subpoena to retrieve cell phone records etc. All supposition on my part.

Yeah Im pretty sure you would need court documents before a carrier would be able to go and get that information for you.

If what verizon did for that guy is true +1 for them. I would want to keep my last vm if something were to ever happen to anyone close to me. I hardly ever keep vm's but the ones I do I hate when they finally go away

Yes Julie agreed. What Verizon did was quite true. The story (being human interest and touching) was picked up by local news so I guess Verizon wanted to get some free positive press and that they did.
