Psh. No worries. I admit when I'm wrong. I LOVE to argue, so it's a double edged sword.

I still don't feel as if the question is 100% answered - for me, there was never a doubt that you can setup ActiveSync and make it work. The issue is are you going to get charged either the higher $45 per month, or worse still, an overage rate for this data.

That was also the issue even for Windows Mobile devices etc. AT&T has never has much of anything to do with helping or hindering your setup - but they will tell you when you're liable for additional charges.

As clearly as they have stated the $45 enterprise rate, and being fully aware that you can set this up easily without their intervention, it does not strike me that they would be happy to have the higher rate as 'voluntary' ...

There. My apologies. I based my argument with what I was told. Either way, my bad. You CAN use the $30 /mo plan to get your exchange mail. I've set up our entire office that way.
I respect when a man admits he's wrong. It's a sign of character

I hope to get mine set up tomorrow. Yeah, I haven't been to work in a week--been on vacation.

Default data plan versus enterprise data plan

I'm afraid so. The enterprise data plan ($45) is for corporate e-mail (e-mail exchange server) and also gives you access to your personal e-mail. The personal data plan ($30) requires a compatible internet provider like comcast, att, pacbell.... The reason it is difficult to compare these data plans side-by-side is that one is typically listed under personal plans and the other is under the business heading. Bummer, huh?

I haven't found any definitive statement that claims you must pay for the Enterprise Data Plan, at least I really hope not. That is a huge jump from $20 to $45. I don't need the Enterprise applications, just the push.

Actually, I am connected to my exchange server and get all my emails and I have the $30 individual plan for the iphone 3G. No enterprise plan needed.

That's cool. Do you know how your phone is getting the exchange server mail? Is it a push or does the phone periodically check for mail and download it to the phone? This is what I have heard is the difference between the personal data vs enterprise data. I don't know how the phone knows the difference unless it is a software thing at ATT.
