This is a discussion on Enterprise Data Plan($45) vs. Personal Data ($30) question within the iPhone 3G forums, part of the Apple iPhone category; Originally Posted by NateEssex Sounds partial, but I hope dturner is right Why use the language in the release I ...
everybody needs to remember these are not special plans made for the iphone. att already has an enterprise plan for devices that use activsync. guess what? it costs 45 dollars. look it up on their site if you don't believe me. they are going to use their plans here. if you are in a situation where you can use activsync to access a exchange server, than you are most likely eligible for a discount on your monthly bill

So here's the thing. I will be the first one to admit when I am wrong. I really have no problem with it. That being said, I HATE being wrong.
I called 3 more stores and specifically asked the difference between consumer and business and why the cost is more. They all said because with enterprise, there's more date flowing, so it costs more. They also all said that you wouldn't be able to use an exchange account without it, the mail won't work.
This is similar to a blackberry. A co-worker who is on Verizon has his blackberry hooked up to work. his wife went and changed his plan when she got a new phone, and inadvertently put him on a consumer plan, with him (co-worker) knowing. All of a sudden his push mail wouldn't work. As soon as they placed him back to enterprise/blackberry plan, his mail worked immediately. He never changed a single setting on his phone.
So again, I think Rob may have a point, and it may work, but based now on 6 stores, I'm not sure. I would have totally agreed with Rob, except I know of this specific example...
SO DON'T TELL ME TO BACK DOWN. hehehe. j/k
This reminds me of when I got my Treo 650. When it came out, they told "us" we "had" to have the $39.99 data plan. Every store you called would tell you the same thing. I told them I hardly used data, with crossed-fingers, and fortunately got the cheaper $19.99 data plan. Some had to change their plans online, others were able to get them changed in stores. The bottom line was that you had unlimited data with the $19.99 plan. I believe others were able to access Exchange servers while doing that on the cheaper plans.
Sometimes, they really try to steer you into getting the more expensive planI'm going to try to avoid it again.
Personally, I don't think it's worth it.

<--- glad he doesn't have to worry about it.
Go ahead, quote me. I dare you.
Ramesh,
The only flaw with this analogy I see is that with a BB, you have to have the BB plan because you actually have to be logged into the Blackberry server running through the carrier. With the iPhone, there is no back-end server that you'll have to be logged into. I don't see any difference between logging into MobileMe vs. logging into an exchange server that my company has set up. I know what you're thinking though: When you set up the MobileMe account in Mail, it'll tell the phone that you don't need to be on the Enterprise level data plan and let you connect. I am willing to bet if you set up your MobileMe account manually it would still work without the Enterprise level data plan.
Believe me, I hope you are wrong and I am right only so I can save $15 per month.![]()
