He pointed me to the terms and conditions, and they make it clear that the enterprise plan is needed for corporate email syncing on Exchange.

I don't agree with a $15 charge for something that doesn't add anywhere near that much cost to AT&T, but when I get my iPhone, I will pay the $45 because that's what the T&C specify.

I will continue to access my email via exchange as long as it allows me too. $45 dollars is a complete ripoff and is in my opinion, taking advantage of people. I had corporate access thru Sprint for $15!! If AT&T can't place restrictions or monitor access to corporations maybe they should use some of that money to figure out how to. I think it is great that you have the morals and live by an ethical code, but please don't expect the rest of us to just bend over and take it.

Each person must decide for himself. I was merely pointing folks to the T&C at AT&T since there seemed to be quite a lot of confusion about the plans.

ATT charges blackberry owners $30 bucks a month for unlimmited data and email. Syncing with exchange included. $45 dollars is a total freekin ripoff. And completely unjustified.

I can certainly see how people might think it's a ripoff. Fortunately, you have the option of choosing not to sign the contract as a means of objection.

I prefer the old fashion way, take advantage of thier lapse enforcement of a policy that is a joke anyway. When they catch on and figure out how to enforce it, well, I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

The best AT&T can do is cut you off for traffic trends indicating a push connection to a server; thus making the case that you've violated your T&S.

The real question here is "is this fightable?" Everyone is debating the validity of the extra $15 dollars a month. I contend that AT&T's engineer's know better, and that their management decided to overcharge overusers for an oversubscribed network . Cable carrier's are trying to do the same thing to heavy broadband users. It's the pricing model used for business wide-area network (WAN) connectivity for years. The more you use, the more you pay. The problem here, is that they have very-little monitoring in place (if any) to meter this usage like they do on terrestrial lines.

I think the consensus is they should at a minimum have monitoring in place if they are going to tier their pricing structure. Otherwise, access should be ubiquitous and what they are mandating by policy is akin to fraud.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm doing a little research on some things regarding the iPhone and found this post via Google.

I've seen insistence from several users that the AT&T Wireless Data T&C explicitly states that an Enterprise Data Plan is mandatory for Microsoft Direct Push (Exchange syncing).

I downloaded the 13-page TOS and have read through the entire thing and found nothing to this effect. If it's true that it states in the TOS that an Enterprise Data Plan is required to use Exchange, I'm just curious to see (as in, with a direct quote and a pointer to the page or PDF where it can be found) where that's actually stated.

Thanks!
