Default Email Automatically Downloading when Contacts are Viewed

I have spoken to the iphone "experts" at Apple and they were of no assitance to this - Everytime I even view my contacts (from the phone or from the Contacts icon) all my email is downloaded to my phone. Normally this isn't a problem. But occasionally there are a lot of emails to be downloaded, and this causes a several second delay in my being able to make a phone call. This is annoying. When I want to make a call, I don't want to wait for my email to download.

I have Fetch New Data turned off. Oh, and just now when I was checking my settings, my email just downloaded by itself again...

Thanks ahead of time for your possible solutions.

Try plugging your phone into iTunes and doing a restore.

Nice thought. If it was that. The Apple folks had me try that too. It didn't work. Thanks for the thought. Got another?

Perhaps deleting the email account ...hard reset...and re-entering email account?
Edit: on further thought this probably won't work....unless.... When you restored was it from backup or as new device?
What email provider are you using?

If I restore my phone, does that mean I will heave to redownload the last couple versions of Itunes? And will I lose MMS? If so then I may just put up with the inconvenience.

You will not lose MMS or the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

You will need to re-sync your information onto the phone though. I suggest you set your phone up as new and don't sync from back-up as that might be where the problems coming from.

If you have anything on your phone that you need, make sure you write it down or email it to yourself so you have it after the restore.

If you are jailbroken and depend on the unlock then look at www.blackra1n.com

Hope this helps.
