Default edge network

ever since I changed my network over to edge my phone is working perfectly. I noticed the biggest improvement in the maps app. it finds me with in seconds and keeps up with me so well that it has a hard time updating the maps as I drive. I think I'm just going to stay in edge until I read better things about 3g.

I live in Dallas with 3G towers everywhere. I was having so much trouble with reception, dropped calls, and people saying that they couldn't hear me that I just turned off 3G period. I have bluetooth installed in my car, and I really noticed a difference while using the car's bluetooth. In 3G, everyone complained about not hearing me and the reception totally sucked. In edge, things are fine. Either Apple or AT&T really dropped the ball on this 3G issue. The 2.02 update did not improve my 3G reception at all by the way.

From what I am reading everywhere on this forum, edge seems to be the way to go at this time. Hopefully the 2.1 update will improve things for you.
So glad I stuck with my V1. No problems at all.

I tried to justify the money I wasted upgrading from v1 to 3g. I gave 3g a fair shot. I run a business and I travel all the time. I can't be rebooting every time 3g decides not to work. Dropping calls with 5 bars. Not getting mail for hours. It's back to edge hoping that one day Apple and ATT will deliver the service we pay for every month

This is what would be a big problem for me if I had the 3G. No matter who's fault it is, you shouldn't have to pay for something that pretty much doesn't work.

I never use 3G for phone calls, just for network stuff.

Still, my 3G phone gives noticably better phone service on Edge than my V.1 ever did, so I'm very happy with it.

The curved back feels better, too.

This is key for me as well. I'm in edge most of the time but the edge radio on the 3g seems much better than the edge radio on the v1. I was getting "no signal" all the time on my V1, rarely do I get that on the 3g.

I'll switch over to 3g if I'm going to be doing a lot of internet stuff or downloading an app.

Turning 3G off and using edge and wi-fi exclusively has worked very well for me since July 13. I purchased the phone on launch day. The fact that I couldn't take advantage of 3G was initially a hard pill for me to swallow.

Fortunately, I've not had a lot of the issues people here have been dealing with. Until a real fix for 3G comes around, be it software or hardware, I'm content with edge and wi-fi.

I also agree with kevroc that my edge reception on the 3G phone definitely seems much stronger than on the v1 phone. Although, I rarely ever use it for data as I usually have wi-fi access.

Great thing about the edge network is this is the first smart phone I've owned so edge seems fast for me .What sucks is I use Verizon's 3g internet service and If the iphone is supposed to be as fast as it is then they've got a long way to go.

I am right there with you guys, and I am in the Houston area where we should have great 3G service yet I don't. So after days of calling AT&T I finally got them to give me 3 months of 3G service free persay, they gave me a $10 per month credit.
