That one looks exactly like the Gevey-3G, but since they made it after the 2.2 firmware (and they clame it supports firmware 2.2) then I think that's the only one available for now. Go ahead and buy it.

I don't know, but I do know the TurboSIM I bought about 4 weeks ago doesn't work with it.

I ordered a new TurboSIM yesterday from THESE GUYS. (you can pay through PayPal - PHEW!)

We'll soon find out if they are full of ****. I've had good luck in the past with TurboSIM's, I didn't have one issue for 14 months using one with my iPhone 2G.

This is my 2G iPhone:

This is how you know which firmware you are on. I am far to tired to bother taking my iPhone 3G out of the box to take a screenshot and post it here. Here's my 2G, to show you all where you locate what firmware you are on.

For your iPhone 3G...

Baseband 02.28.00 it bad!

Baseband 02.11.07 is good!

-----------------------------------------

You cannot go back to 02.11.07, if you went to 02.28.00. I know this to be fact, I tried everything at this stage.

-----------------------------------------

The only solution to a SIM unlock if you are on the "BAD" firmware (bad meaning locked like a prison) is a newer TurboSIM that supports this firmware.

I am yet to believe they exist, we'll see if this new one does the trick. I have my doubts, there's so many bull****ters on the web. Though when I did encounter a similar situation way back when with my iPhone 2G the TurboSIM I purchased at the time actually worked. From a dodgy chinese site called Spider-Foot mind you, who no longer stocks the things, since about 2 weeks ago. And they don't work either, they only worked on iPhone 2G. I remain cautious to get my hopes up.

DAMN YOU APPLE!!!

Default Check out the eMail the NEW SIM crowd just sent me, in response to MY question...

I have made bold the important parts.

---------------
Hello,

We are supporting all versions including 2.2 custom firmware.
The 3Gsim is proven to work world wide for any GSM network.

- If your iphone is Brand new and has already a 2.2 firmware running,
you will not be able to unlock right now.
- If you did the latest update with apple firmware 2.2 your iphone
will be locked again.

Our team is already working on the new updated 3Gsim unlock
which will support apples latest 2.2 update. All members will receive
the item as soon as we release it. It is the matter of time when
the new 3Gsim will be available to our customers.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Best regards,
Jane
Yet, that didn't stop them putting "2.2" with a big green check-mark on their site did it? Bastards.

They better deliver that new "FREE" SIM like they say they will. Call me a sceptic, but I have a feeling it will be a................................................. .......... while............

Thanks for the tips, Irelan3G.

To my understanding , there is no need to use turbosim for 1st gen iPhone 2G. One can simply use software to unlock and jailbreak it.

I also have 1st gen iPhone 2G. I unlocked and jailbreaked it with ZiPhone when it was still with firmware 1.1.4. Later on I upgraded it to firmware 2.0.2, unlocked and jailbreaked it with WinPawn 2.5. I haven't upgrade the firmware to 2.2, yet, though.

I need to figure out the best way to upgrade the 1st gen iPhone 2G from firmware 2.0.2 to 2.2. If anyone knows the best software to use for the job, please post it here and I would be greatly appreciate it.

I just bought iPhone 3G. So far, I heard that we can only jailbreak it with software, not unlock. We still have to use turbosim to unlock it. Is that right? What would be the recommended software to jailbreak and recommended turbosim to unlock then?

Thanks.

Yeah, but that wasn't true "months" ago. It's very true now though.

I just plugged it into iTunes and clicked update. The Apple way. My 2G iPhone is still unlocked, but no longer jailbroken. I don't care about it been jailbroken though, as that 'can' make the phone crash more.

If you were a Mac user custom updating the Firmware is easier. Actually you could try QuickPwn for Windows.

MORE INFO......
