Default Screen protector or not?

Just wondering what the majority opinion is regarding screen protectors. The few I've installed were a PITA. Haven't gotten one on flawlessly yet , so today I decided to go commando. The naked screen is much better looking, just hoping it's resilient enough to what the world throws at it.

So what say you all?

I used to have Invisible sheild on both the body and screen, and have used cases.

I MUCH prefer 'commando'. The feel of the phone is so much nicer. I just take a bit of extra care over what I put in my pocket with it.

I'm not concerened about resale value though. I always get a new iPhone when one comes out and just hang on to them (I've now got 4!).

I guess if resale is important to you then go with a case or screen protector, but it's so much nicer without.

I had one on my v1 because I was initially paranoid about scratches. Eventually I cam to realize the iPhone screen is very resilient, and really doesn't need any extra protection against normal wear and tear, although I kept the protector on because you could hardly tell it was there.

I haven't bothered to put one on my 3gs for that reason, and also because the oleophobic coating rocks.

I had screen protectors on the first two phones but because of the oleophobic coating on the 3Gs, I don't want one. I like the feel of this screen and am really not concerned about scratches. I have none yet.

Like the others said, it depends what you have. I've heard a lot of people don't use them on the 3GS because of the coating; however, I have a 3G and always have one on. I recommend either the Invisible Shield or the Crystal screen protectors. You'll notice the Invisible Shield but will definitely not even notice the Crystal on your iPhone.

Thanks for the responses guys! I think I'm gonna go without for awhile and see how it goes. Worst case I can just replace the screen right?

Not really. You can if the phone is out of warranty, but the moment you take a phone apart that is still covered either under your first year or Apple care, you're pretty much screwed, because if you ever take it in for service, they will find out the phone has been compromised.
I highly suggest getting a screen protector unless you feel confident about never scratching the screen.

And as far as 70 views and only 10 votes, it's because this is like the 3rd poll on the topic.

Not really. You can if the phone is out of warranty...
That's the only circumstance under which I would ever consider replacing the screen. The reason I brought it up was because I read somewhere here that a new screen is only like $30 or so. If that's true, replacing the screen seems like a no-brainer if it's ever scratched or broken.

I highly suggest getting a screen protector unless you feel confident about never scratching the screen.
Well I don't think anybody goes without getting a scratch at one point or another, but the 3GS is supposed to be the best yet as far as resiliency goes right? I don't know... I really like not having one on there but I do have 6 sitting here. I'm sure they'll get used sooner or later.

And as far as 70 views and only 10 votes, it's because this is like the 3rd poll on the topic.
I couldn't find one. Any combination of "screen" "protector" and "poll" yielded 0 results with an advanced search looking at the titles of the threads. "Screen protector" yielded 7 results with this thread being one of them, the only poll listed. I'm trying before I post these threads, believe me.

If you could show me the way to the other 2 polls on the subject I would appreciate it!

I have the plastic protector that the phone came with, I have had it for a month. I plan on keeping it on until it falls off.
