Maybe it's left over from the differences between the V1 and the 3G? In any case, it's strange that months since it's announcement, people still think that the 3Gs is physically difference on the exterior from the 3G. You would think that just shopping for accessories would have been enough since 3G and 3Gs are grouped together...

the little S-stand is pretty cool for a freebe. One side is made to hold the phone in a Portrait position, but can also hold it landscape, just very vertical.
flip it over and it is made strictly for landscape with a nice viewing angle.
the one drawback is that the portrait side is not 100% stable. if you try to use the phone when in this position, you will push it right over. (not well balanced) But for keeping on my desk at work, it definitely covers the job.

I had the same similiar problem with my iFrogz case with one of those mirror screen protector's I had to like cut the corners off a little bit to get it to fit properly.
