I did a google for creating free ringtones from your mp3s but for some reason I was only able to make one ringtone. The rest of them didn't work, and I followed the directions exactly.
Anyways, I had a Blackberry Curve 8330 so my thumbs thank me for getting an iPhone

Welcome to the community. As for AT&T, I been with them since the beginning of Cingular. So I just happen to luck out when they received the iPhone. As for the touch screen, you will get the hang of it. I went from a crappy flip phone to a touch screen, just takes some adjusting to get to use.
As for ringtones, this is the most straightforward and easiest site to use for ringtones.

Tons of them are up already to use, or you can upload MP3's to trim. Once down, hit save on the site(Download for iPhone)and save it to desktop then drag it into your ringtones folder on itunes. Sync and bam, free ringtones.
