1000 posts.... so much pressure... Ah crap it feels like a high school paper, this whole “reveal” business. So let’s keep it short and sweet, eh? If it seems too slim on content, just triple space it and use a large font.
So my name is Dave Schonauer. I was born Nov. 8 ’77 in York, PA… was raised there all my life in a great family. I had 3 older sisters (7, 9, 10 years older) so I guess I’m the brat. I started piano lessons at age 4 and got the music bug quickly. Always a geek, I was that guy that did the crazy science fair projects (robot that followed a black line in 7th grade, and a voice recognition board/software in 8th… just to give a hint at how cool I was to all my peers). Somehow through all that dweebage, I attracted a hot little blond-haired blue-eyed cutie in 7th grade and stuck with her to this day (that would be my wife, Jen). We’ve been married 6.5 years, and have been together over 17 years now. And yeah, we’ve only ever “done it” with each other so … there’s that …
… geez, where was I going there?
Oh yeah, so we survived college apart… She went to college near home, I went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying Music Production and Engineering, minoring in Music Synthesis. I worked at a small narration studio up there for a year or so after graduating (graduated early… was waiting for Jen to finish) then moved back home. Jen and I moved to Philadelphia and she started work as a mental health therapist. I got a job at a pretty famous studio (Sigma Sound) in its dying days. Got to work with some relatively big names there… Bela Fleck, Taylor Swift (cut her 4-song demo), DMX, “Jersey Girl” cast/Kevin Smith, David Byrne, John Legend (again, before he got big)… I got steady work there for over 3 years before the doors closed. Then I went to work at “The Studio” (that’s the name) for a short run. More big names there (mostly The Roots, as that is their home base), but the vibe wasn’t really me. So I cast my net out again, and got picked up at Morningstar Studios… they’ve been around for over 28 years, and they keep me in steady work, so I hope I’m there for the rest of my career. It’s been over 4 years now, and I’m building a nice roster of happy return clients, and basically just loving life. Not so many big names, but good, down-to-earth, local musicians. I’m producing albums and contributing a lot to the work I do.
And the GEAR…. My god, my boss is a gearwhore to the Nth degree. Love it!
I also write music and love to share it, so I’ll get a link up soon with some tuneage.
So that’s basically where I’m at. There is more to me, of course, but I wouldn’t presume to go into it all without prompting. So… nice to meet you all! See ya in the next few 1000 posts or so…
