And I have a lot of applications, some of them were already on the phone by the previous owner and I don't want to lose them, so is there a way to copy the IPAs by SSHing into the phone or some sort so I wouldn't lose them and then install them later on?

    Thank you very much.
Tarek... i dont trust geohot, or any of the rain methods.

Use Pwnagetool like how i did. It creates a custom ipsw without updating the baseband. Thatway you'll still be on 3.0 firmware but running 3.1.2 functions.

Pwnagetool has never failed me, im still unlocked.

Blackra1n Rc3 hactivates. Tarek didn't need an AT&T SIM. It worked just fine on my 3G yesterday. After I restored it with my T-Mobile SIM in it, I had the iTunes invalid SIM and slide for emergency iPhone screen. I ran blackra1n rc3 and blacksn0w and it activated and unlocked.

That's what I've been doing but I decided to upgrade the baseband as well. I actually didn't check if it did get upgraded or not. But I think it did!

After updating (or restoring) the iPhone, it restarted and gave me a screen that "Insert a valid sim", so I just ran Blackra1n and clicked "make it rain" and it did the job. When it rains, it will show the same screen of the invalid sim activation thing, just wait a minute or two (DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE) and it will go away and you'll be good to go. So it's just as Europa said (sorry just read your post now, Europa, was still on 2nd page when I replied).
