iPhone is always showing I have a new e-mail

The iPhone home screen always shows that I have a new e-mail using my Gmail account. I have even tried deleting all the e-mail in my gmail account (it's a new one I made for iPhone use) and then sending a test mail. I'll read the test mail on the iPhone and it will still show that I have 1 new e-mail.

I can delete every e-mail that is connected to my account, send a test mail and then actually read and then delete the test mail and it will still show I have a new e-mail! It's very annoying.

Anything that I'm overlooking?

Well I tried a different e-mail account and it works, I guess I screwed up some setting my gmail.
