If you have a mac at home you can install the iPodage widget it does what you ask and more. I cut and paste the description from apple.com, as well as the link. It's pretty cool.

It does hold X amount of songs if based on certain criteria.

say an 8GB iPhone can hold 350 Bohemian Rhapsody's

or 25 American Pie's

Refering to size in song terms is easier and less abstract for those who have trouble wrapping their heads around 8 GB.

I use to refer to time in Flinstone's episodes when I was a kid.

But technically you are correct an 8 GB iPhone holds 8 GB's of music......

yep, the rest is osx. that's kind of alot. they should really make the flash memory 8. whatever it takes to make the actual storage 8 GB
