can't sync my backup data after adding a new iphone to itunes

Hey guys/gals.
i'm in big trouble here.
i restored my iphone today and all my data was erased.
i had it backed up.
at the same time i registered a new iphone in itunes.
now to the problem:
when i try to add the backup data back to my first phone it does not sync my info.it sync a blank phone except it activates it as the old one.
what happened to my synced data, and how can i restore it?
i have found the applemobilebackup.exe from the date i last synced with all my numbers and everything.
but i have no idea as to how to add it back
would someone please help me.
