Default AT&T to penalize iphones not activated within 30 days?

As you may know, iPhone 3G will be required to be activated in store from now.

An AP report says that ATT will be penalizing iPhone users that haven't activated their phone within 30 days.

We don't know yet what the penalty will be but man, that sux! If I pay for a phone I should be able to do whatever I want with it!

I don't understand... the buyer will have to activate in store. They'll be walking home with an activated phone no matter what, so how could anyone be penalized.

They're locking down on unlockers. That's all there is to it.

So this policy thing is AT&T's and Apple agreed to it? ...because the only benefit of this is for AT&T.

Wouldnt that be a benefit to AT&T? not Apple. The point of unlocking the phone is to be able to use it on different networks. Apple doesnt make money off of people using AT&T for their iPhones...do they?

It's a benefit to both. When iPhones are with AT&T, Apple gets a cut. When they're with T-Mobile, Apple doesn't get anything.
